An incense for working with and honoring the Patron Saint of Urgent Matters: St Expedite.
The traditional incense that I have seen recommended for St Expedite is a simple recipe, no doubt fashioned after the Pound Cake offering: equal parts frankincense, myrrh and sandalwood. I'm sure it does the job, but it probably smells like... well, a lot of sandalwood. Pound Cake is "a pound of everything", so going with the same logic we are using weight measurements here. So... that's a lot of sandalwood.
Its not a bad place to start, though. We're just going to balance the proportions a little bit, and toss in a few ingredients that lean towards his "quick" nature (in other words: air and fire)
- 2 parts Frankincense
- 1 part Myrrh
- 1 part Benzoin
- 1/2 part Galangal
- 1/2 part Cassia
- 1/2 part Hibiscus
- 1/2 part Sandalwood
- Lemon Zest to suit
- Pinch of Dragon's Blood (do you ever really need more than a pinch of Dragon's Blood? This is for color and punch more than anything else)
I'll be making a batch of this shortly, so this may require adaptation and there may be some available for purchase before his feast day on 4/19/19. Took me longer than I wanted to get started on this, but started I am. Had a few strokes of inspiration along the way. I'm really interested to see how this comes out.
