And but one word with one of us? couple it with
something; make it a word and a blow.

- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

There seems little point in practicing magic unless you want to do at least a few extraordinary things with this incarnation.

-Peter J Carroll, The Octavo

Like “love,” “hope” is one of those ridiculously disproportional words that by all rights should be a lot longer.

- Jim Butcher, Turn Coat

The starry-eyed idealists of today have submerged their critical faculties beneath a tidal wave of slop marketed by those old hippies who now sell a user-friendly dilution of their original enlightenment.

-Peter J Caroll, Psybermagick

Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.

- William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream

Behind the clock back there you know
At the four winds bar

- Blue Öyster Cult, Astronomy

Offering's a complicated business.

- Jake Stratton-Kent

Another related point is that theological eclecticism to the tune of replacing this structure with pagan deities so it appeals to personal taste does the ritualist no favours as it undermines their ability to leverage a power dynamic that is better understood and has been employed countless times.

- Julio Cesar Ody, Magister Officiorum

Only fluffy bunnies need apply.

- Jake Stratton-Kent

Now moves. Even in storytime, dreamtime, once-upon-a time, now isn’t then.

- Ursula K. le Guin

...the practioners of magic have always been syncretists, experimenting intraculturally and sticking with what worked.

- Michael M. Hughes, Magic for the Resistance
#MagicResistance

Bakery and metallurgy are just different applications of alchemy, and all three are closer together in practice and mystery than most people might expect.

Chariot's Enemies of Humanity

In case you haven't figured it out yet, I am an opinionated cuss. I also have no problem sharing my opinions, which are rarely uninformed, though always open for consideration. Anyone is welcome to challenge my opinions, and a thought provoking argument will always brighten my day. You may not change my opinion, but you are always welcome to try.

Without further ado, my current list of the Enemies of Humanity

  1. The Catholic Church: From the earliest, misogynistic church fathers to the most recent crop of buffoons (doubt my characterization? just check out some of the things that have dropped from the lips of the latest guy in the big hat, like: condoms don't help prevent the spread of HIV, they make it worse. Now this is a little dated, those things were said by the last guy to wear the big hat, you know, the one who couldn't hack it and stepped down. The new one has given me whiplash trying to keep up with his shifting positions, because first it's "who am I to judge" and then its reconciling with the Russian Orthodox church to condemn same-sex marriage and express their concerns over Christians being "confronted by restrictions to religious freedom". Check your religious privilege, buddy.). Now, I will be the first to admit that there has been and continues to be, an enormous amount of good done in the name of Christianity; and my issues are not so much with the faithful as a group. No, my issues are with the Church as a body, an entity. The Church has committed such unspeakable evil over the course of its history, I do not even have to list their crimes; but all in good fun, why don't we throw a few of them out there: the protection of priests who have molested children; the Inquisition; the Dark Ages; the systematic eradication of "rival" faiths, including the slaughter of millions of people and the untold destruction of cultural and sacred artifacts. I've started to take some flack for this position, frankly I'm surprised its taken this long. I've adopted a new magical motto: Inimicus Dei Constituitur, specifically because I believe so strongly in this and having the Church at the top of my list. And just to bolster my position, take a gander at some these links:

  2. American Family Association: These nuts have to be seen to be believed. I've heard some crazy shit in my days walking this earth, but these people take the cake.  Did you know that Hitler and the majority of his SS troops were gay? That they only tortured, imprisoned and murdered the "effeminate" homosexuals? I know there are all kinds of Holocaust revisionists; most of them ignorant, or just plain stupid, with a few bordering on true evil, but this one is just so hilarious it should be on tee-shirts. I can't really decide, in general, if these people are ignorant or evil. Their propaganda needs to stop.  They hurt people. And no one associated with them should ever be elected to public office, because they represent the worst kind of small-minded bigotry.

  3. National Organization for Marriage: Talk about pillars of humanity these people are small-minded bigots of the most obvious sort. I get to hear one of their morons pretty regularly, because he's head of the local cell: Chris Plante. And today I found out that award wining author, Orson Scott Card is one of them... and his bigotry is off the charts. How does this sort of thing slip by? I've heard Card's name for years, knew he'd won awards, heard him recommended by his contemporaries... but ALL ALONG he's been spouting his anti-gay agenda.

  4. Family Research Council: If you don't know who this group is, and you consider yourself to be an intelligent, free-thinking, human being (kind of the point of the list, right? That the people ON the list are NOT human), you should know who they are and you should beware and defeat them and their ilk where ever their horned-little heads pop up.

  5. Focus on the Family: See above regarding the Family Resource Council. And to hell with Tim Tebow for having anything to do with a group like this. From their website, in the "Help" section, they provide advice to a husband who is struggling with a frigid wife and they have this to say about sex :"From a Christian perspective, sex is the ultimate expression of physical, emotional and spiritual unity between a husband and wife. It's a wondrous, beautiful, holy, self-transcendent and sacramental experience. It's a picture of the mystery of Christ's relationship with the church (Ephesians 5:31)." While I don't really want to think about Christ penetrating the church (isn't Mary the church?...shiver...), isn't that description of unity between two people perfectly apt for any two people who love each other? Sex can be just sex: enjoyable, stress-relieving, even fun; but between people who love each other, it reaches that other level and becomes a sacrament.

  6. Voice of the Family: Verdict is still out on this one, but I think they deserve inclusion here, and here's just a little taste of what you can see at their website
The promulgation of the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia by Pope Francis marks the conclusion of a synodal process that has been dominated by attempts to undermine Catholic teaching on matters relating to human life, marriage and the family, on questions including, but not limited to, the indissolubility of marriage, contraception, artificial methods of reproduction, homosexuality, “gender ideology” and the rights of parents and children. These attempts to distort Catholic teaching have weakened the Church’s witness to the truths of the natural and supernatural order and have threatened the well-being of the family, especially its weakest and most vulnerable members.
I don't really think you need to know any more than that to see where these people stand.
